Located near Lake Ahquabi State Park, this home to the Warren County Conservation Board features a beautiful facility which offers an educational look at Warren County's natural resources. This interpretive self-guided tree tour will acquaint you with several of the non-native, unusual or rare trees that live in Buxton Park Arboretum.

Iowa's newest state park underwent an "extreme makeover" to create a new venue of family fun in the outdoors from what was once a coal mine site.

Shoreline picknicking available with fire grills and picnic tables. Restrooms available.

Walk, bike or skate the two-mile, paved scenic bike loop, which runs alongside the park's roadways. The bike loop connects with the 12-mile Summerset bike trail which connects Indianola and Carlisle. Plans are also in place to create a premier mountain biking trail system in the park.

Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy excellent fishing and boating opportunities. Banner shooting range also adjoins the park. Open daily 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m

Both stunning and serene, Buxton Park is nestled in the center of Indianola adjacent to Simpson College. Its formal gardens, ornamental fountain and gazebo offer a spectacular setting for intimate gatherings, photo sessions or a simple stroll in the park. Also home to an arboretum, the park offers a self-guided interpretive tree tour pamphlet at the display case near the gazebo.

Farnham Galleries at Simpson College provides Simpson and the surrounding community with opportunities to witness and experience artwork of professionally working artists. By presenting a wide range of artists, artistic styles and media, Farnham Galleries seeks to provide a fully diverse examination of the visual arts to the public.

The playground provides space where dogs can exercise and socialize. It features fenced land for both small and large dogs, water, a shelter, picnic tables and portable restroom. ANNUAL PERMIT OR DAILY PASSES REQUIRED. Purchase annual permits at Indianola Parks and Recreation. Day passes available at the park for $3. Permit tag must be visible on your pet while at the park.

A By-Reservation Tea Room nestled on a picturesque farm in the hills of southern Iowa, just a short drive from Indianola.

Mother/daughter team Donna Hardin and Miss Spenser have created an environment of respite and calmness from the hectic everyday world, a place where the art of conversation is practiced. The tea room offers a traditional British- style tea served on fine accoutrements, accompanied by mouth watering, home made soups or salads, savories and finger sandwiches, scones with cream and curd, and sweets, all artfully arranged on three tiered trays. Along with this delicious meal, they serve wonderfully prepared gourmet teas. Their menu is pre-determined and changes monthly.

There is also a small gift area where they sell their fine teas plus dainty accessories. Perfect for an intimate gathering, or groups up to 45. In addition to tea time, they also offer special programs for large groups or on pre-selected dates.

This 160 acre park was once a farm. It offers picnicking, a shelter with tables and grill that can be reserved, modern restrooms, playgrounds, basketball, 18 hole championship level disc golf course, hiking trails, horseshoe courts, adult and youth softball complexes, and a campground (first-come, first-served for self-contained vehicles only).

Summerset Winery is nestled on 12.5 acres of vineyard in the scenic countryside of northern Warren County, just 7 miles south of Des Moines and twenty minutes from the downtown area. From our back patio, guests can enjoy the view of the picturesque terrain as well as the downtown Des Moines skyline.

The winery houses a wine tasting room, gift shop, wine cellar, meeting room and grand banquet hall. We offer group tours, special events, wedding ceremonies and receptions as well as live music every Sunday afternoon.

Sunday concerts are held outdoors as weather permits. Producing over 155,000 bottles of wine a year, Summerset is still the largest producing winery in Iowa.

Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center features a 7400 sq. ft barrier free, "zero depth" heated pool. A 1-meter diving board, water therapy seat, water cascade, leapin lily pads, gadgets & gizmos, tumble buckets, bubbling beach, sandpit, and a super sidewinder slide (a 195 ft waterslide.) Our main museum houses a Warren County Historical/Genealogical Library, kitchen /dining room, and two floors of historical exhibits. The Heritage Village has a log cabin, Mt. Hope Country School, Pioneer Church, a Quaker South River Meeting House, George Washington Carver Museum, Large Machinery Building and General Store. The Library has family histories; old school records; obituaries; photos; court records; information about Warren County communities, churches, and organizations; and original newspapers.

Log Cabin Festival, a free fun filled family event, held the last full weekend in September is our main fundraising event. We host Indianola 5th, Southeast Warren 3rd, and Norwalk 4th grades at Pioneer School. In May we have a 5th Grade Spelling Bee.
